ABOUT
The Needhams: A Legacy of Faith, Family, and Gospel Music
For over 28 years, The Needhams have been a powerful and inspiring presence in American Gospel music, known for their heartfelt lyrics, pristine family harmonies, and passionate performances that touch the hearts of audiences across the nation. Their musical legacy began decades earlier with David and Eileen Needham, whose love for country and gospel music laid the foundation for a family tradition that continues to thrive today.
David and Eileen, both Massachusetts natives, started their musical journey playing country music, eventually dedicating themselves to Country Gospel music in the early 1970s. Joined later by their children Dave and Diane in the 1980s, the family band toured regionally, sharing their faith and music with growing audiences. David’s career spans over seven decades, including early years with bands such as Rusty and the Rainbow Valley Rangers and the Country Skylarks.
Dave Needham, David and Eileen’s son, took the helm of The Needhams in his mid-20s, managing the group and contributing as a bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Dave’s experience includes a notable tenure with the Dixie Melody Boys, where he gained recognition for his vocal skills and musicianship. His leadership has shaped The Needhams into the dynamic group they are today.
The current lineup features Dave and his sister Diane, Diane’s husband Steve Mummert, and the next generation with Dave’s daughters Arianna and Kayliana. Diane began singing at age two and developed her talents as a vocalist, drummer, and songwriter, complementing the family band alongside their parents David and Eileen. Steve, a Pennsylvania native and seasoned drummer, joined The Needhams in 2000, and also serves as the band’s road manager. Arianna’s soprano and Kayliana’s warm alto add new layers of harmony and youthful energy to the group’s sound. David and Eileen continue to tour with The Needhams at select dates.
Having performed over 3,600 shows and traveled more than 1.5 million miles, The Needhams have shared their uplifting message of hope and faith in Christ across the United States and beyond, having performed at prestigious venues including the Gibson Bluegrass Showcase, Stardust Theatre, Opryland Hotel, National Quartet Convention, Bill Monroe Music Park, and on Royal Caribbean Cruise ships, among many others. Their dedication and artistry earned them the SGNY Artist of the Year award.
The Needhams’ recent projects, including Hymns Volume 1 and Legacy, demonstrate their commitment to preserving and celebrating the roots of American Gospel music while connecting with both longtime fans and new listeners. Their music reflects their deep faith, strong family bonds, and a shared mission to glorify God through every song.
As The Needhams continue this remarkable journey, they invite audiences everywhere to experience the joy and inspiration born from their blend of family harmony, heartfelt storytelling, and unwavering devotion to spreading the Gospel. Their mission remains to encourage fellow believers, uplift hearts, and share the love of Jesus Christ through the timeless power of music.
